Nurdling

A brief description of Nurdling for the uninititiated

A traditional local event adopted by Alton Morris 20 years ago. Originally this was part of the ceremonies to celebrate the local shallot harvest.

In simple terms Nurdling is an obstacle course for 6 people and a 'dratting pole' - all six people must keep at least one hand on the pole at all times. It is thought that the team of 6 derives from the number in a Cotswold Morris side, but there is no firm documentary evidence of this and some may have queried the absence of a musician. ( The course could be attempted by, say a full North West side but we would not recommend this ). For the sake of brevity I will not attempt to explain the deeper philosophical and spiritual aspects of Nurdling which some intellectual observers have likened to Zen but I would stress that participation can be enjoyed just as much by a novice as by an initiate. Tradition dictates that you should change out of dancing kit into jeans, tracksuits etc. before running ( and crawling ) the course. Participation is not obligatory - not all are destined for the True Path!
